Hello, Readers! Marvel’s What If…? is Marvel Studios’ most recent and original series. With the releases of WandaVision, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, and Loki, Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is well underway.
With this new animated show, the MCU will embark on yet another thrilling adventure. The series is based on the same-named comic book anthology, which premiered in 1977 and includes a total of 13 volumes.
Even before the Season 1 premiere date of What If…?, Marvel and Disney+ confirmed that a second season had been greenlit. Season 1 will begin in August 2021, with Season 2 to follow at a later date to be determined.
Marvel’s What if…?: Release Date
The series premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT. On consecutive Wednesdays, a new episode will be released. Each episode lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Marvel’s What if…?: Official Trailer
Peggy Carter as Captain Carter, King T’Challa kidnapped from Earth by Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy, a zombie Captain America hurling his shield at the Winter Soldier, and Dr. Strange fighting another version of himself are among the various universes depicted in the trailer.
Another trailer shows Black Panther villain Eric Killmonger saving Tony Stark’s life, King T’Challa transforming into Star-Lord, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor fighting in New York, Captain America, and Iron Man as zombies, and more.
Wright describes the series’ main premise and how it links to the MCU multiverse in another trailer.
What is this about?
The plots listed here have been confirmed based on available footage from Marvel’s trailers and teasers. Because it’s an anthology series, each episode will stand alone. Uatu, the Watcher, an extraterrestrial creature who plays out alternate timelines within the multiverse to see how the stories end, will be the narrator throughout.
The show will show fans what might happen if a key moment in the MCU were altered, such as if Agent Peggy Carter instead of Steve Rogers received the Super-Soldier serum. What would have occurred if Eric Killmonger had saved Tony Stark during the events of the first Iron Man film? This is another narrative that will be investigated.
Dr. Steven Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, will be the topic of one of the storylines, with his character supposedly getting sucked into another dimension and so on.
Cast and Characters
Several MCU stars have been confirmed for the animated series, with a total of 51 movie actors scheduled to reprise major or minor roles. The late Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Hayley Atwell as Captain Peggy Carter, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and others are among the returning cast members.
